Today at 19.02, the historic Winton Train, which departed Prague’s Main Station this morning at exactly 9.01, arrived in Nuremberg, completing the first segment of its journey. This first part of the trip, which Winton’s children absolved together with their families, the winners of student competitions as well as Nicholas Winton’s daughter Barbara, took 10 hours and constituted a distance of 355 km. Across Czech territory the train was pulled by two steam locomotives – Slovakia’s Green Anton and the Czech Republic’s Albatros, which were switched in Furth im Wald for another, German locomotive produced in 1939. Today’s route from Prague to Nuremberg was almost the same as that travelled by some of the passengers seventy years earlier as children. For most of the participants the experience was full of emotions, expectations, memories and joyful meetings.
In Nuremberg, the Winton Train was welcomed by: Representative of the City of Nuremberg Horst Förther, Ambassador to the Czech Republic in the FRG Rudolf Jindrák and German Minister for European Affairs Günter Gloser. Following a brief welcome at the Nuremberg Station, journey participants made their way to their hotel. On the next morning the Winton Train will depart on the second segment of its journey, from Nuremberg to Cologne, a distance of 489 km.
