Today, 2 September 2009 at 16.57 the Winton Train completed the second day of its journey in Cologne. All day there was a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere on board the train, full of lively conversation new experiences and additional meetings. Some of these meetings between Winton’s children have taken place after an unbelievable 70 years! At the Main Station Winton’s children were received by a representative of the mayor of Cologne, Andreas Hupke, and Steven Brummel from the International Jewish Center in Brussels. After a festive welcome, some of the journey participants visited Cologne’s National Socialism Documentation Centre. This was followed by a group dinner in the Synagogue.

During an hour-long stop to re-supply water and fuel in the city of Kaub, a second steam locomotive was attached to the head of the Winton Train. Tomorrow in the Dutch city of Emmerich both locomotives will be replaced with yet another, which will pull the train and passengers all the way to the port city of Hoek van Holland.

There is an interactive map showing the current position of the Winton Train at www.wintontrain.eu as well as photographs and messages from journey participants available for download.
